Privacy Policy
Effective July 23, 2026
DentaLingo (“we”, “us”) helps dental professionals learn the language they use with patients. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Information we collect
- Account information — when you sign in with Google or an email magic link: your name, email address, and profile photo (used as your avatar).
- Profile — your role (e.g. dentist, hygienist), chosen avatar, level, and the languages you’re learning.
- Learning progress — your XP, completed lessons, daily streak, and the phrases you’ve found difficult.
- Voice recordings — when you use the speaking or conversation practice, your microphone audio is captured so it can be transcribed and scored. On iPhone/iPad this is done by Apple’s built-in speech recognition; on Android the short clip is sent to OpenAI for transcription. We do not store the audio itself, though the resulting text of your practice is saved with your account so we can improve the lessons.
- Feedback — the rating and any comment you choose to submit (stored with your account so we can review and respond).
- Device information — the browser and device type you use to sign in, and when you last used the app, so we can support the devices our users have and keep the service working.
- Approximate location — a coarse location (country, region, city) derived from your IP address, to understand where our users are. We do not collect precise or GPS location.
- Technical data — standard server and access logs (such as IP address, device, and browser) kept by our hosting provider.
DentaLingo is a language-learning tool. It is not for storing patient records or any protected health information, and we ask that you do not enter such information.
How we use your information
- To provide the app and save your progress across your devices.
- To power AI conversation practice and to transcribe and score what you say.
- To send a one-time welcome email when you first sign in.
- To respond to feedback you send us.
- To keep the service secure and working.
Services we share data with
We use a small number of trusted providers to run DentaLingo:
- Supabase — sign-in and cloud storage of your profile and progress.
- OpenAI — powers the AI conversation partner and, on Android, transcribes your spoken practice; it receives the text of your conversation and (on Android) the audio of what you say during practice. OpenAI does not use this data to train its models via the API.
- Apple — optional Sign in with Apple, and on iPhone/iPad the built-in speech recognition that transcribes your spoken practice.
- Google — optional sign-in with your Google account.
- Brevo — sending the welcome email.
- Vercel — website hosting.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy policies. We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Storage and retention
Your progress is stored in your browser (local storage) and, when you’re signed in, synced to our database so it’s available on your other devices. We keep your account data until you ask us to delete it. Data may be processed in the United States.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit your profile at any time in the app.
- You can sign out, which removes your data from that device.
- You can delete your account and all its data from inside the app — Profile → Edit your profile → “Delete my account”. You can also email us to request access, correction, or deletion.
Cookies and local storage
We use your browser’s local storage to keep you signed in and to save your progress. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Children
DentaLingo is intended for dental professionals and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll change the effective date above when we do.
