Privacy Policy
Effective July 23, 2026
DentaLingo (“we”, “us”) helps dental professionals learn the language they use with patients. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Using DentaLingo without an account
You do not need to sign in to use DentaLingo. When you open the app we create an anonymous session on your device so your Smiles, streak and progress can be saved and kept honest. That session is not linked to your name or email, because we don’t ask for either. Signing in is optional and only adds the leaderboard and syncing your progress between devices. Where something below applies only to people who sign in, we say so.
Information we collect
- Account information — only if you sign in with Google, Apple, or an email code: your name, email address, and profile photo (used as your avatar).
- Profile — your role (e.g. dentist, hygienist), chosen avatar, and the languages you’re learning. You may also give a name to be greeted by, but it’s optional and we don’t check it.
- Learning progress — your XP, completed lessons, daily streak, and the phrases you’ve found difficult.
- Voice recordings — when you use the speaking or conversation practice, your microphone audio is captured so it can be transcribed and scored. On iPhone/iPad this is done by Apple’s built-in speech recognition; on Android the short clip is sent to OpenAI for transcription. We do not store the audio itself, though the resulting text of your practice is saved so we can improve the lessons — with your account if you have one, and otherwise with no name or email attached.
- Feedback — the rating and any comment you choose to submit, so we can review and respond. It’s stored with your email only if you have an account; sent without one, it reaches us unattributed.
- Device information — the browser and device type you use, and when you last opened the app, so we can support the devices our users have and keep the service working. This is recorded whether or not you have an account.
- Approximate location — a coarse location (country, region, city) derived from your IP address, to understand where our users are. We do not collect precise or GPS location. This is recorded whether or not you have an account.
- Technical data — standard server and access logs (such as IP address, device, and browser) kept by our hosting provider.
DentaLingo is a language-learning tool. It is not for storing patient records or any protected health information, and we ask that you do not enter such information.
How we use your information
- To provide the app and save your progress across your devices.
- To power AI conversation practice and to transcribe and score what you say.
- To send a one-time welcome email when you first sign in (accounts only).
- To respond to feedback you send us.
- To keep the service secure and working.
Services we share data with
We use a small number of trusted providers to run DentaLingo:
- Supabase — sign-in and cloud storage of your profile and progress.
- OpenAI — powers the AI conversation partner and, on Android, transcribes your spoken practice; it receives the text of your conversation and (on Android) the audio of what you say during practice. OpenAI does not use this data to train its models via the API.
- Apple — optional Sign in with Apple, and on iPhone/iPad the built-in speech recognition that transcribes your spoken practice.
- Google — optional sign-in with your Google account.
- Brevo — sending the welcome email.
- Vercel — website hosting.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy policies. We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Storage and retention
Your progress is stored in your browser (local storage) and on our database against your session — anonymous or signed-in. Your profile syncs between devices only once you sign in. We keep your data until you delete it (see below) or ask us to. If you sign up after using the app anonymously, the progress from that session is moved onto your new account and the anonymous one is deleted. Data may be processed in the United States.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit your profile at any time in the app.
- If you have an account, you can sign out, which removes your data from that device.
- You can delete your data from inside the app at any time, with or without an account — Profile → Edit your profile → “Delete my account” (shown as “Delete my data” when you don’t have one). This removes your progress, device record and practice history from our database. You can also email us to request access, correction, or deletion.
Cookies and local storage
We use your browser’s local storage to keep you signed in and to save your progress. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Children
DentaLingo is intended for dental professionals and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll change the effective date above when we do.
